From 9th August 2017,the students of prestigious Hindu college, Delhi university have been protesting against the fee hike in the girls hostel. This fee hike issue is nothing new,it created a lot of noise last year as well but the college didn’t open up the hostel last year which resulted in closure of the protests.

The students have been sitting and sleeping inside the campus without mattresses or fans. The administration like any other administration in the University have resorted to tactics such as sending show cause notices to the protesting students and calling up their parents.

After the 119 years of establishment of the college, this year the administration opened the hostel accommodation for women but with high fee and absurd curfew timings.

UGC had sanctioned a grant of Rs 82 lakhs to the college for the construction of women’s hostel in 2012. However, the grant was withdrawn after the college administration had lapsed on the fund. Hence, the construction of the hostel had been outsourced to a private company, the financial burden of which is now being forced to be borne by the women students.

The fee for resident female student is set as Rs 90,000 whereas for male resident student is set as Rs 59,000.

Security ko aage karti hai” and “Hindu tum sangarsh karo,
DU tumhare Saath hai” were called out in support of the students.
