The metro fares are to be hiked again by making ‚Çπ60 maximum fare for travel beyond 32 km. This new revision will come into effect from October 1 but the increased fare will be applied from October 3 as October 1 and 2 fall on Sunday and National Holiday respectively.
The revised fare prices will be ‚Çπ10 – below 2 km, ‚Çπ20 – between 2 and 5 km, ‚Çπ30 – 5 to 12 km, ‚Çπ40 for travel between 12 and 21 km, ‚Çπ50 for 21 to 32 km and ‚Çπ60 for journey beyond 32 km.
This is the second phase of revision as part of recommendations given by the fourth fixation committee. The first phase has been taken place on May 10 by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) giving the reason of costs of input and operations increase each year.
“The metro fare hike is anti-people.Transport minister Kailash Gahlot has been directed to find a solution to prevent hike in metro fares within a week“, the Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal retweeted.
The old discounts will remain in effect which were ‚Çπ10 off on Sundays and National Holidays for all slabs apart from base slab. Also, 20% discount for using smart cards for travel in off peak hours i.e., 6 AM to 8 AM, 12 PM to 5 PM and past 9 M can be availed by the commuters.
In the financial year 2016-17, the cumulative ridership of Delhi Metro had for the first time crossed the one billion mark.
