Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) has launched gender sensitisation cell which is abided to create a safe atmosphere for all students, especially for women and transgender students.
The foundation of this cell is laid down on the ideals of protecting students from sexual harassment or gender discrimination and provide them with the legal aid and advise. The cell will also hold interactive sessions with students and university authorities on these thought provoking topics.
DUSU president Rocky Tussed said,DU is for everyone and we want to send a message across that female students are as safe as everyone else.
If we analyse, within a span of few years the instances of sexual assaults,sexual harassment,eve teasing,stalking and voyeurism against women and racial discrimination against north-eastern students has gained magnitude in and around Delhi.So this initiative of establishing this cell at university level will surely help students and generate awareness regarding their rights and legal aid methods.
The cell, which will have the DUSU President as it’s chairperson,a convenor and two co-convenors responsible for its functioning, will work alongside the National Commission for Women,the Delhi Commission for Women and Women’s Development Cells operating within colleges and sexual harassment committees of all colleges of the university.
