TikTok, developed by Beijing Bytedance Technology Co allows users to create and share musical videos with special effects. It has reportedly been downloaded more than 240 million times in India.
On Wednesday, Madras High Court asked the government to ban Chinese video app TikTok, claiming it is “encouraging pornography”.
While hearing a public interest litigation against the app based company, The Madras High Court said children who are using this application are vulnerable to exposure to sexual predators. The court observed that “Inappropriate” content is TikTok’s “dangerous aspect”, in addition to that “there is a possibility of the children contacting strangers directly” as reported by Reuters.
The spokesperson of TikTok said along with committing to abide by local laws, company seeks to maintain a positive & safe environment. They are waiting for court order on the basis of which they will take suitable actions.
