Delhi University’s Executive Council on Saturday approved the semester system and CBCS syllabus for the non-regular courses taught at School of Open Learning (SOL) and NCWEB. The non-regular courses will now have the same examination and syllabus as the regular colleges.

Few years back,Delhi University had scrapped the annual examination system and applied semester examination system for all its regular course. But, SOL and NCWEB were exempted from the amendment because these courses do not have regular classes. After the latest decision, NCWEB and SOL will share the same plane as the regular courses, though there are significant differences between them.

Besides, three honours courses of SOL will have the same examination schedule as the regular honours courses to avoid extra efforts to make question papers. The three honours courses are B.Com (Hons), B.A.(Hons) English and B.A. (Hons) Psychology.

According to Hindustan Times, EC member Rajesh Jha showed his dissent by saying that the move would be unfair to students who have enrolled for the annual mode of courses.

Janmejoy Khuntia, SOL Staff Council Secretary, further said “students have paid their fees in the annual mode so it may be unfair to ask them to switch. The university must look at the implementation and avoid haste.”
