The Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) has decided to go on an indefinite strike from December 4 onwards against the university’s decision to appoint guest faculties for full-time posts. And, as the examinations are going on in the Delhi University, DUTA members will boycott evaluation, invigilation duties and other official works.

One of the statements released by the DUTA was, “It is completely unacceptable that the Vice Chancellor, through the letter sent on August 28, denies appointment of full-time teachers on ad-hoc vacancies till positions can be filled on permanent basis.”

In fact, former academic council member, Pankaj Garg too said that ad-hoc teachers are totally dependent on the salaries to support their families. Other than him, Saikat Ghosh, member of the Standing Committee at Delhi University’s academic council alleged that, “some influential college principals have gone beyond the brief of the August 28 letter and further persuaded the Delhi University Principals’ Association (DUPA) to halt salaries and renewal letters for all serving ad hoc teachers.”

But, DUPA president, Jaswinder Singh said that, they have written to the Vice Chancellor to clarify the guidelines. One of thTe query was about the appointment of teachers and if an ad-hoc teacher resigns, will it be treated as a vacancy.
