For the new Super Mario Bros Movie that is all set to release shortly, audiences can expect to listen to the voices of A-list celebrities. The Hollywood superstar Chris Prat will assume the titular role of Mario, while Charlie Day will play his sibling Luigi.

Anya Taylor-Joy, from Queen’s Gambit fame, will be seen in the role of Princess Peach while our very own Jack Black will be lending the voice for supervillain Bowser. Seth Rogen will be undertaking the role of Donkey Kong.

The film is all scheduled to release in the month of December, 2022.

Declaring his enthusiasm at the film, Chris Pratt said “dreams come true”. He is excited to take the role of Italian plumber Mario,  and lend his voice to the character. He recalled how as a kid he had played this very popular game.

The producers of the film came out with an important statement giving insight into the process that will go into making the film. They said that each actor had been chosen, keeping in mind the spirit of the character they will be playing.

This film, however, is not the first film about the Mario and Luigi world. The characters were featured in a 1993 live-action film which was based slightly on the gaming series. However, it didn’t receive a lot of praise.

“Mario and Luigi are two of the most beloved heroes in all of popular culture,” said producer Chris Meledandri. His aim, as stated, is to make these characters feel alive on the screen. However, he is not the only member of the team excited to begin the endeavour. Here are the names of some more of our beloved listers whose voiceovers will be used in the new Super Mario Bros movie-

  • Jack Black as Bowser
  • Keegan-Michael Key as Toad
  • Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek
  • Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike

Chris Meledandri’s top-grossing Illumination label will be engaged in this project. The movie will roll out via Universal Pictures. Both Nintendo and Universal Pictures are involved in co-financing the project.

The fan base of Super Mario rages across ages and has devoted supporters for many years now. Even so, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto hopes that this movie would be “a new piece of entertainment which brings Super Mario Bros to life on the screen, and allows everyone to enjoy whether or not they know about the game”.
