Delhi university is the most talked about university in India.DU is among the largest universities of India with 86 academic departments, 66 colleges and five other recognized institutions. It has been more than a week since the Delhi University started it’s registration ¬†process for admission in various courses.Last year the university ¬†received ¬†more than 2 Lakh applications ¬†for just 56,000 seats in various ¬†UG ¬†courses. But the university is continuously ¬†facing with under utilization of available ¬†funds and resources, lack of teachers and accommodation for students.
Teachers are protesting now and then for regularization but all their attempts go in vain.More than 30,000 students apply for 17 hostels with a capacity ¬†of 3,215.At least 100-acre land is lying around the university campus and despite students demand it is not being used for constructing hostels due to which students have to find accommodation in expensive PG’s.Another problem is the lack of lab equipment’s .Out of 20 equipment at university’s ¬†science instrument centre only 10 are functional. After witnessing protests ¬†from ABVP,DU has also scrapped ¬†the decision ¬†of conducting online entrance ¬†test for post-graduation courses. The protests have even delayed the admission process for these courses which were due to start ¬†from May 31st.
Students aren’t able to complete the application process because Tab-2 (Academic Section) is still not working after 10 days from the day admissions began. With the crown of being one of the best places in India for higher education,Delhi University is hardly doing justice to its reputation. In 2017,the university is still not able to provide state of the art facilities to students. The big question which arises is-Is Delhi University even ready for taking more students in this year? Answer to which is well known to most of us.
