The All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), has proposed to stop registering any more engineering colleges from the year 2020. Acting upon the suggestions of the government committee, AICTE has come up with this decision. Besides this, AICTE shall approve addition of more seats in the engineering colleges in correspondence to the resources they have.

The government committee, headed by BVR Mohan Reddy. the chairman of IIT-Hyderabad, laid down a detailed report, mentioning its observations of various concerns of the existing engineering colleges. According to the committee’s report, more than half the seats had been left vacant since the last few years. Also, corruption cases were found in many colleges. Problems like poor infrastructure, lack of proper faculty and so on, added up to low employment of engineering graduates.
