The NSUI blackened the bust of Veer Savarkar and simultaneously honoured the busts of Bhagat Singh and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. The NSUI criticised the move and said Savarkar cannot be kept on the same pedestal as that of Bhagat Singh and Subhash Chandra Bose. Hence around midnight about 20 NSUI activists blackened the bust of Veer Savarkar.

“How could they have put the bust of Savarkar alongside Bhagat Singh and Subhash Chandra Bose? We had to take the matter in our hands.” asked Akshay Lakra ( NSUI Delhi wing president).

Akshay Lakra, Delhi State President of National Students Union Of India (NSUI) has filed a police complaint in the Parliament Street Police Station mentioning the threats received since the night of incident. After facing the threatening phone calls he chose not to remain hush rather filed a police complaint against the mushrooming problem. Moreover, he has clearly claimed that the ABVP members should be held responsible if any mishap or harm is caused to him.

“With due faith and utmost regard I Akshay Lakra president, NSUI Delhi would kindly request you to take stern action against below mentioned anti- social elements who have been threatening me via calls in the name of RSS and ABVP. I have been getting calls to stop my protest against Veer-Savarkar’s Statue. Sir life threatening statements have been made over call. Being A student leader and a responsible citizen, I raised my concern over Saffronisation of DU. Few anti social elements have clearly mentioned their affiliation to RSS and sympathy towards EX- DUSU president Shakti Singh.” read the complaint.
