English left-back Ben Chilwell’s strike sent Chelsea soaring back to the top of the Premier league table with a win against Brentford. The final score was 1-0, with only one goal throughout the game scored by Chelsea as Edouard Mendy’s heroics kept the game surviving. Chelsea returns to the top, reclaiming the position.

With Liverpool and Man City winning earlier on Saturday, there was immense pressure on the team in blue. The game was their sixth win of the season.

Brentford, on the other hand, has only lost its second game of this season and are seventh after eight games.

Bryan Mbeumo hit the post for Brentford in the first half of the game itself. Before the break, Chelsea had a lead owing to Chilwell’s half-volley from just inside the area. This is Chilwell’s third goal in his last three games.

In the second half, Mbeumo hit the post again. Following this, Mendy brilliantly saved the day by saving three goals. The first was from the sub, Saman Ghoddos, the second with his face from Pontus Jansson. Mendy also saved the stunning overhead kick by Christian Norgaard.

“The last 20 minutes, we showed the mentality we need to be showing all season,” Chilwell said. “It was hell on Earth, the last 20 minutes, but we did pretty well.”

He went on to add “We have Eddy [Mendy] to thank, he was amazing,” Chilwell said. “He made superb saves and got us the three points in the end. “I’m happy to get on the scoresheet and happy to score the only goal of the game. But we showed our defensive steel.”

Brentford also impressed viewers all over the world, despite their defeat in the match. Their tactical play and rounding up the game in the second half has been appreciated by many, with the side receiving claps from all around the stadium.

“If you look over the 90 minutes, there can only be one winner – and that’s us,” said Frank. “We kept the number one side and European champions to five shots. In the end, we were all over them. They got a lucky win.”

The game was a thriller with both sides showing amazing skill and kept their nerves till the last minute. While Chelsea returns to the top and emerges victorious, Brentford has created a space for itself in the League.
