One of the most sought after courses in the Delhi University, B. Com. Honours, is usually the first choice of a commerce student for a grad programme. This under-graduate course gives an in depth view of various commerce and finance subjects in order to build shrewd business acumen in its students. There is a huge difference between a B. Com. Programme course and a B. Com. Honors course. The programme course gives just an overview of the subjects studied more meticulously in the honours course.

It is a laborious course and not many understand the significance of it. The level of intense, rigorous study is 10 times of what has already been comprehended in class 12th, and you have to possess complete interest in your field in order to make most of this prestigious yet demanding course.

WHY? :

B. Com. Hons. is one inter-disciplinary course that helps you build managerial skills and competence. Also, the commerce field offers you numerous niche specializations.

WHAT? :

Under the CBCS, (Choice Based Credit System) a B. Com. (H) student studies Financial, corporate, tax and cost accounting; Business, corporate and taxation laws; Economics and business statistics and even Entrepreneurship. Along with the core subjects, CBCS has also now included AECC (Ability Enhancement Compulsory Course) under which the students study studies, along with the core subjects, a language which may be English, Hindi or any MIL (Modern India Language).

Currently pursuing B. Com. (Hons.) myself, in the first year of my course, I had 8 subjects; four in each semester. Stepping into second year now, I’ll have 9 subjects this year, while 7 in the next and last year of my course. You also get to choose a lot, if you’re in DU. There is a choice you need to make for AECC and generic subjects. Make sure you always choose wisely according to your interests and insights.

CAREER OPTIONS :

Commerce has always been a good stream choice because of the variety of job opportunities it opens ahead. A B. Com. (H) from DU makes you well versed in a number of subjects and also gives you industry-required knowledge. Apart from going for further studies like pursuing M. Com., M.A. or M.B.A. from a recognized university, one can venture to other fields and also apply for various jobs. Be it Banking, Corporate Jobs, Financial Advising, Tax Planning, Auditing, Chartered Accountancy (CA), Company Secretary (CS), Stock Broking, Legal Advisor, Agriculture Economics and even Accounts Executive, these are all very lucrative options to opt.

In a nutshell, B.Com. Hons. is one course that gives you up-to-snuff grasp on your subjects and the slot to build a secure walk of life ahead. Make sure to wisely choose your course and do what you love!
