What is precise definition of woman’s modesty?

Supreme Court in one of the judgements had defined it as “The essence of a woman’s modesty is her sex.”

“The act of pulling a woman, removing her saree, coupled with a request for sexual intercourse…would be an outrage to the modesty of a woman; and knowledge, that modesty is likely to be outraged, is sufficient to constitute the offence,”

Crime against women not only include sexual offences but also include violence on women either physically or verbally. Crime against women has been a very much talked issue in India.

After a delay of 2 years the annual crime report of NCRB 2017 was published this month. As per the report, Uttar Pradesh topped the list with 56,011 cases followed by Maharashtra and West Bengal. In Delhi crime against women increased by 6% in 2016 and 9% in 2015.

Majority of cases of being cruelty by husband and inlaws followed by sexual assault on women, kidnapping and rape. Even in 2018, the Thomson Reuters Foundation released a report which mentioned India as the most dangerous places for women in the world.

The day she starts feeling safe at night on street, while travelling in cab, while responding to a stranger, or when she will not pulling her dress down while passing by a group of males, that day India will become safe for women.
