Death On The Nile: Trailer Review

On 19th August, 20th Century Studios released the trailer of Death on the Nile, an adaptation of Agatha Christie’s novel of the same name. The video has garnered 1,623,105 views till now. The movie will have Kenneth Branagh continue his role of Poirot from the 2017 hit Murder on the Orient Express. Branagh has directed both these movies.

CAST

The film, Death on the Nile has a large ensemble of many well-known faces coming together to recreate the famous murder mystery. Kenneth Branagh, an academy award nominee also famous for his portrayal of Gilderoy Lockhart in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets among many other iconic roles, will be embodying the noted Belgian sleuth, Hercule Poirot. Though hovering a few inches over the usually petite detective, Branagh has picked up the character with utmost finesse.

Well-known actors like Gal Gadot, Russel Brand, Tom Bateman, Annette Benning and Ali Fazal among many others have joined him.

Ali Fazal though observed only in one scene in the trailer is supposed to have an important role to play. It is believed that his work in the film will change the way how Indians have been portrayed in Hollywood so far.

THE TRAILER OF THE DEATH ON THE NILE

The trailer shows Hercule Poirot on a vacation on the Nile. The atmosphere there is charged with sexual tension.  While tensions are running high in the trailer, there is a sense of impending doom until the murderer strikes. It is up to Poirot to ‘deliver the murderer’ in the case which he claims has altered the shape of his soul. With the stakes so high, it is one murderer among a sea of suspects on a boat that has to be identified.

RELEASE

The fast-paced murder mystery is slated to have a theatrical release on 23 October 2020. It remains to be seen whether most countries would have opened their theatres by then and with what restrictions. Though a popular novel with a huge fan base, it has taken its chances at the box office with a conventional release, given the coronavirus pandemic.
