Delhi High Court asked DU to set up a panel to probe appointment of professors after complaint

Delhi University is again in headlines when some petitioners filed a complaint against the selection committee of the Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College that the appointment of assistant professors was done on the basis of false information and certificates.Following this the Delhi HC has instructed the University authorities to set up a Panel to probe into how the appointment of professors are being held in the varsity.While the petitioners were the ad-hoc professors of the college, the Principal was the Chairman of the staff selection committee.

The mishap came into light when one of the petitioner who had applied for the post of assistant professor of physics after seeing an advertisement of vacancy issued by the college on February 3, 2015 was rejected but challenged the selection procedure claiming that although she was duly qualified, unqualified candidates who forged certificates and documents were chosen over her.Joining her other petitioners also claimed that many unqualified and ineligible candidates had presented research papers which were either copied or did not even exist and false information was given about their past experiences Also it was claimed that the AQI scores of the ineligible candidates were manipulated and increased. One of the petitioner stated that although they had complained to the VC but no action was taken which further forced them to go to the court.

Regarding the complain, Justice Sunil Gaur asked the DU V-C to form an independent to observe the selection process closely . According to him , the allegations are very serious and the selection committee may or may not have followed the DU guidelines regarding the appointment of the assistant professors.

With accusations against the teaching staff selection committee roaring around the varsity, the controversies revolving around the professors has certainly taken a upheaval.

However the principal of the college , Gyantosh Jha has said that the allegations were false but the investigation is still being carried out.
