Amidst issues of protests at Vishvavidyalaya metro station against fare hike and changes in admission procedure from upcoming academic session around the campus, what’s catching our sight is a letter of complaint written by Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) to Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister of Delhi Government Manish Sisodia to release funds for DU colleges funded by Delhi Government. The letter also reads inordinate delay in formation of governing bodies in 28 funded by Delhi Government.

“We have learnt that the University of Delhi has submitted an additional list of 100 names to you. We request you to immediately release funds to these colleges. You may be aware that many of the 12 colleges, which are 100 percent funded by Delhi Government, have not been able to pay salaries to their employees” the letter reads.

DUTA president Rajib Ray said that in several colleges, ad-hoc teachers have not received salaries for several months creating immense personal hardships as they are already in a vulnerable situation. He also said that the teaching-learning environment and administrative functioning has been adversely affected. “We have learnt that the executive council of the DU is to meet on January 27 and we once again request you to amicably resolve the matter so that governing bodies can be formed without any further delay” they added in the letter.
