Drunk DU Student Allegedly Kills Woman In A Road Accident;Daughter Seriously Injured

A 38 year old women died and her 13 year old daughter was seriously injured after their vehicle was hit by a car allegedly driven by a girl studying in DU around 11:30 PM on Friday in West Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh area.

Police told that the accused is a student of Delhi University and also works at a salon.Her father used to be an inspector with the Delhi Police and died of a cardiac arrest eight years ago.The accused, 22-year-old Shivani Malik, was out for a joyride with three of her friends. The four were heading towards Gurgaon after a night out in Connaught Place, said police.

The accused has been arrested and booked under IPC sections 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 304 A (causing death by negligence).

According to police, there were two females and two males were inside the car. “After the accident, both men got away while the two women were caught by bystanders,” a police official was quoted as saying..

Following the incident, a mobile recording surfaced, purportedly showing Shivani admitting that she was drunk, but claiming that she was not driving the car. Police said that a medical examination suggested 170 mg of alcohol was detected in the accused’s blood, though the permissible level is 30 mg.According to media reports, the victim Poonam Sardana, was returning with her husband and daughter from Chhatarpur Mandir and was on her way to home in Adarsh Nagar.
