Delhi School of Journalism is a pioneering institution that is housed in the university stadium in North campus. Recently, it has geared up to welcome its first-ever batch for the Master of Arts in Journalism programme. The dream project was started in the year 2017 with a flagship ‘Five-year integrated programme in Journalism’ course. Amidst the pandemic in 2020, the institution witnessed its first batch of students awarded with a bachelor’s degree.

Previously the post-graduation seats would be left empty due to an exit option available to students of the Integrated Five-Year programme after completion of the first three years. Subsequently, those seats are now available to new students from other institutions, and specializations. However, all applicants will have to qualify the DUET (Delhi University entrance Test) for the M.A. Honors in Journalism specialization, conducted on a pan India basis.

The institution offers the programme in two different mediums- English and Hindi. Additionally, the institution includes curriculum offering Foreign and Indian regional languages. Unfortunately, what started out as a promising venture was bogged down with political protests. Students spoke up in demand for basic amenities and infrastructure needed for the functioning of such a professional degree course.

In its wake, the protests led to a suspension for eight students. The concerns for lack of permanent faculty and sharing of a campus with the Cluster Innovation Centre remain. With the coronavirus pandemic still viable and no news about university opening soon, the challenges to the institution are at larger play.
