The University of Delhi announced its first cut off last week. Admissions under the same where closed at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, 14 October 2020. Colleges are still in the process of approving applications and receiving fees. The second cut off is likely to be released on Saturday, 18 October 2020. It is expected that top courses are likely to be unavailable for this cut off at DU.

ADMISSION IN DU

According to a report by The Hindustan Times popular courses in many of the prestigious colleges of DU have been filled beyond the holding capacity. Despite such high cut offs colleges have experienced over admissions. This would lead to many of these courses closing lists in the 2nd cut off. Nearly 30,000 seats out of 70,000 have already been filled. It is highly unlikely that the top colleges will open their lists again.

POPULAR COURSES

In these admissions, history honours and political honours have filled up the most number of seats. Manoj Khanna, the Principal of Ramjas college told The Hindustan Times that they have over admitted students in their Political Science honours and BA Programme courses in both the reserved and unreserved categories. He stated that in Political Science they have given admission to 81 students against the slated 18 seats.

Similarly, according to Anju Srivastava the Principal of Hindu college, the institution might not open lists in the 2nd cut off for History and Political science.

According to the same report, even Hansraj College might close in the 2nd cut off for B.Sc Honours Mathematics and Anthropology.

SUBSEQUENT CUT OFFS

It has been postulated given the number of seats that have already been filled that the courses that do open in subsequent cut offs will only see  a marginal decrease of 0.25 – 1%. This can also be attributed to the soaring results and marks awarded by different school boards.  It can be possible that after some students change their course or college in the 2nd cut off. Due to this, the courses which were closed in the 2nd cut off might open subsequently.
