An 18 year old Delhi University student faked her own kidnapping fearing her father would scold her since she bunked her classes. The incident took place on late Sunday night when she sent her father a video on messaging app – WhatsApp. Her father immediately reported the incident to the nearby police station, a case under IPC section 365 of kidnapping was registered. On Monday morning the parents received a phone call informing that their daughter was found crying on the street of old Delhi’s Ballimaran area.
When the girl was later questioned, she said that she was kidnapped by 4-5 men who took her to a jungle and when they fell asleep at night, she managed to escape but when the girl was questioned again to understand the identity of kidnappers, she finally confessed that she had made up the story.
The Police told that on Sunday, the girl had left for Purana Quila with her friends instead of attending her classes at college. She received a video call from her father since he wanted to confirm whether she was really at her college attending the classes or not, she panicked and hung up the call. She stopped answering his calls and later went on to stay at a friends house. She was helped by a friend in making the video of her kidnapping where her hands and legs were tied with a rope.
