One of the most reputed colleges of Delhi University-Sri Venkateshwara College recently got one student Lariba Ashfaq Ahmed go through the worst days of her life.One can‚Äôt even imagine that such things can also happen in India’s best University-University of Delhi.
The student alleged that due to carelessness of the staff and faculty,her career was put on stake.After collection of her documents and verifying the same,they gave her an acknowledgement slip of admission and later by evening they simply denied of having done so.
On a telephonic interview,Lariba and her mother shared the horrifying experience with DU Express ‚ÄúI (Lariba) visited the college on the last day of 10th Cutoff admission in DU .i.e. 29th August 2018 to enquire about the vacant seats in English (Hons) in the college.I met the junior assistant Ms. Nidhi,who was looking after the admissions.As directed by her,I met the Head of English Department to know about the vacant seats.She notified me and permitted me to take the admission.I immediately visited Kamala Nehru College for cancelling my admission and brought all my documents to Venkateshwara College.My documents were verified by Mr. Venkata and Ms. Nidhi,I was granted admission with an acknowledgement slip with my college roll no. 21083 printed.As I reached home,my phone being switched off,Ms Nidhi called up my mother and in a rude manner told her that I am not eligible for the admission as I have some problem with documents and need to visit the college once.Next day on 30th August 2018 I visited the college with my father as directed by Ms Nidhi and was made to sit in the office.In a very cunning manner Ms. Alisha (one of the teacher maybe) took my acknowledgement slip from me and Ms. Nidhi handed over my documents with a sorry.Having cancelled my admission from both the colleges I stood nowhere.I rang the PCR too and seek there help but they just took my statement.But that was also of no use as the staff wasn’t ready to accept their mistake and they also took away the proof of admission that I had- THE ACKNOWLEDGEMENT SLIP.”
“The only help I got through was from NSUI member Avinash but the admin and the teaching staff wasn’t listening to anything.Next day on 31st August 2018,I visited the college with my brother in order to resolve the matter.We met the Principal of Venkateshwara College Mrs. Hemlatha Reddy,who was too reluctant to accept the mistake of her staff and also didn‚Äôt grant any compensation.I asked the Principal to talk to the Principal of Kamla Nehru College to get me back and she agreed by saying I‚Äôve called them, as soon as I reached KNC and asked about the same,they told me that no such call has been received from the principal of Venkateshwara.On that day we met Ms. Nidhi in the office as well and were able to record her confessing mistake on her part,meanwhile Mr. Ramana called the guards to get us out of the college but still we managed to collect enough proof against the college.I really didn‚Äôt expect any such thing from such a renowned institution.”
“Well the fight doesn‚Äôt end there,I approached the Dean Office,North Campus too and wrote a written application against the college and seeked for help,because of Venkateshwara I stand nowhere and requested that KNC should re-admit me in the college. Thankfully yesterday i.e 4th September 2018 I have been notified that I can start attending my classes from 5th of September in KNC as they have accepted my admission under the same cutoff.‚Äù
“Today it happened with me,tomorrow they will victimize someone else.I just want to make students aware that such things also take place in such reputed colleges of DU.I was really disheartened and don’t wish anything like this happens with anyone” Lariba told DU Express.
