Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) has been very much in limelight recently.The Association whose pivotal role is safeguarding the rights of the Delhi University’s Teachers have taken over the roads with certain protests in hand.
This February most of the dailies were filled with DUTA’s highlights.This culture is maintained even in the last days of this month.Initially,for instance on February 8 there was a strike bearing the title “Halla Bol on UGC” on issues related to the 7th pay Revision and service conditions.
It was conceived that the money allocated to UGC in the recent budget would not be sufficient to bear the burden of the 7th Pay revision.College classes were suspended after 11 am and the protest actions was followed consecutively on Feb 16, Feb 22 and there was this Extended DUTA Executive and DUTA GBM (General Body Meeting) to discuss Staff Association resolutions, Pay Revision and related matters and for deciding the future course of action on February 24 and February 27 respectively.
Yesterday, the General Body Meeting (GBM) held by DUTA at Hansraj College witnessed the participation of over hundred teachers.After the meeting the group marched to the Vice Chancellor’s office to demand permanent appointments on an urgent basis.DUTA demanded to regularize ad hoc and temporary teachers.It also demanded to resolve the issues related to pensions and promotions of the University’s teachers.
The GBM concluded that they need to solidify their struggle so as to make an impacting presence in the course of fulfilling their demands and rights.In the coming days they are going to involve more and more students in their protest with their next plan being able to gain public opinion in their favor.
The DUTA will begin an online signature campaign among teachers,students and concerned public against the “Push through self-financing regulations on graded autonomy and autonomous colleges“, “Loans through HEFA (Higher Education Funding Agency) instead of grants“,30-70% funding formula.
On March 12,the Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) will form a human chain at the UGC to demand 100% funding of Central and State Universities,immediate filling of vacant posts through permanent appointments and various other proposals.
