As students, we were overjoyed with the unexpected holiday yesterday. What we failed to acknowledge was our teachers’ struggles. DUTA organized a protest on 11th March 2021 against the unjust treatment by Delhi Government.
The IssuesÂ
First, many colleges affiliated with Delhi University are forcibly being handed over to Ambedkar University, Delhi. Students and teachers will be first at the receiving end of such radical decisions. The colleges will no longer function under the administration of Delhi University. The norms of state university will apply to the students studying in these colleges. Consequentially, it will lead to an increase in fees and a loss in prestige. The fundamental issue remains the exclusion in the decision-making process. The voices of teacher remains unheard.
Secondly, Teachers of 12 colleges that the Government of Delhi fully funds were harassed for the past one year. For instance, grants (including teacher’s salary) have not been released for the fourth quarter. As a result, teachers were affected mentally. If reports are to be believed, teachers are being denied medical treatment by hospitals . Additionally they are facing eviction notice from house owners resulting in taking personal loans. They are facing notices from schools to meet the demand of school fee and the list continues. Teachers are asked to take classes without pay. This indicates a larger problem and greater injustice on the part of varsity.
Student’s contribution
We are more digital natives than students. That is why, we must use digital platforms to support honesty and justice. It is to show our united stance against the prejudiced education system. Therefore, Through our social media channels, we can spread this message to the masses, creating a change. By talking about these issues and problems, we can truly help our teachers. It is our duty to do so.
