Dyal Singh College Student Hospitalised After Being Assaulted For His Caste By Seniors

Ashish Beniwal, First year student of BA Programme from Dayal Singh College got 14 stitches on face and has been hospitalised along with his two friends who were assaulted by their seniors.

According to the reports he was having lunch and normal talks with his friends when the assault took place. They were attacked with ice picks and glass bottles.

The seniors picked up a fight around 3pm and accused them of bad mouthing, however according to Ashish,they did not say anything to provoke the seniors.

This wasn’t the first time that he (Ashish) had been targeted over caste. He had been harassed by his seniors for past 3-4 months who repeatedly called him ‘bhangi‘ for being from Scheduled Caste.The accused held a strong grudge arising out of caste.

Moreover, Ashish alleged that the police did not take any strict actions and they have been ignorant in their case knowing the accused were drunk at the time of the accident and they intended to kill him as they were carrying weapons.

His friend had approached the police in past and also registered a First Information Report (FIR). However, the accused remained out of jail, though the seniors did not come to college very often.

The accused have been identified as Ankit Dahiya,Sunny Gujjar and Sunil Sheoran.
