Former University of Delhi’s Professor- G N Saibaba, who is serving life imprisonment in Nagpur, has filed for a bail application before the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court. He was alleged for having Maoist links.
The division bench of Justices Atul Chandurkar and Amit Borkar have asked the Maharashtra Government to fill in their replies on the bail plea before July 24, which is the court hearing date. In his bail application, he has cited his weak health which is making him vulnerable to coronavirus infection considering the outbreak of it in the jail.

In March 2017, Saibaba along with four others including a journalist and a JNU student were convicted in a sessions court in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra, for alleged Maoist links and indulging in activities which could wage a war in the country. The court held the five of them guilty under the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
