After leaving a trail of destruction in their wake, locusts swarms can now be seen descending upon Faridabad. It was this Saturday morning that the swarms of menace entered the 743 sq. km large district of Haryana and were first spotted at DLF Phase 1 and MG Road in Gurugram at 11 a.m.
“We are prepared to deal with the situation”, assured the Faridabad Deputy Commissioner Yashpal Yadav. He also informed that as far as the destruction of crops is concerned, nothing has taken place in the Gurugram district so far since they haven’t come down in the fields yet. Warnings to keep windows and doors shut were generated on Friday morning in Gurugram. Residents were asked to gather together in the event of the locust attack to make loud noises by beating tin cans and clanking steel plates according to an advisory issued in the district. Farmers were asked to be equipped with spraying pumps. The Agricultural Department also alerted its employees to spread awareness about the locust attack.
New Delhi missed the swarm due to the direction of the wind, stated the Centre’s Locust Warning Organization.Â
