As exams are round the corner, the desired ambience for a college hostel includes pin-drop silence, menu free from hard-stuff and so on. But in case of NSIT, the scenario is quite different. Ruffianism ensuing intoxication and misconduct after consuming drugs on campus, loud music being played in the ground behind the academic block at midnight just one week before the exams. And that too not student misbehavior but wedding of a college employee. Administrative event, you see. Shocking? Isn’t it?
But yes, this is the harsh reality at NSIT where  the very individuals entrusted with the security and student welfare on the campus are misusing their administrative privileges to hold personal events of their own families whereas grounds and infrastructure meant for student development are often cordoned off during non-teaching hours.
The following derelictions were seen in this event:
• Government property used for personal events (marriage) of a college employee.
• Drugs and alcohol being consumed on the road by outsiders behind the McCain and JC canteens inside the college campus.
‚Ä¢ Security Staff of the college was used as Security Guards for the ‘Marriage’ who had to prevented the entry of outsiders into the Moksha Grounds.
• Electricity that is purchased in the name of college maintenance was used to power the event.
• Loud music was being played past 11:30pm which started late in the afternoon.
• The college campus was filled with the parked vehicles of guests and visitors, blocking the roads near the New Block and canteens.
• The boozed-up guests in the campus were also found jumping on top of vehicles and participated in the hooliganism near the main parking next to the Moksha Grounds.
Such kind of incidents are certainly not bearable at any cost in this reputed college, which is most entrusted for the kind of environment it possesses to foster the academic growth of students. But surprisingly, instead of regretting about the misbehavior and assuring discipline, when college authorities were questioned regarding the above mentioned points, they refused to take a decisive action. Not only that, the authorities deferred the event as a whole despite being fully aware and witness as well.
The police has been  involved after no action was taken despite repeated complaints to the authorities and the has police ensured consideration regarding this issue as soon as possible.
It is to be noted that these activities were ‘allowed’ by the campus authorities when the examinations are to be conducted in just a week’s time and regular classes are still being held.
Let’s see what the authorities have to say to clarify their stand.
