We all miss deadlines in our life.Sometimes, they are personal and sometimes they are professional. We tend to ignore those personal deadlines making them not a cause of concern while we should be more thoughtful about them.

Whenever we miss a deadline, we panic and that’s the last thing you want to do in such a situation.Follow these four suggestions next time when you miss a work deadline because we both know that’s going to happen pretty soon, isn’t it?

1. Give an advance notice

If you already know that you’re going to miss a deadline, tell the person in advance so that they can extend the date and make necessary adjustments, if required. This kind of prompt behaviour on your part will prove that you tried your best to accomplish the work on time but it wasn’t just in your hand.

2. Justify yourself

Give a proper and an honest justification instead of making excuses as to why the deadline has been missed. At times, a reason like “I’m searching on this topic more deeply, so I need some more days.” might impress the boss giving you an extension on the deadline.

3., Make sure it won’t be repeated

Apologise for your mistake and make sure that it won’t be repeated in future. Do some extra work in the project given and submit it within the next 1-2 days. Do some extra work on the given projects and try to submit those in advance. This will help in building a credible case for yourself in front of the management.

4. Set a goal

Strategise a goal which you can complete within the given time period. In order to that, you need to prioritise the work. It’s always a good idea to keep a daily record of all your activities and work well within the time frame. Set a daily goal for all the tasks that you have at hand.
