The students at DU have spammed their answer sheets (mock papers of course) and the meme pages requesting the phased reopening of Delhi University. Well, respecting the meme game, modern problems require modern solutions. And so, the students at Delhi University have started their fight against the authorities in a form they are least likely to see with the hashtag: #AbTohCampusKholDo.

The beginning of 2021, especially February, brought along a positive expectation of the reopening of colleges. As soon as the offline classes began for the final year students, hopes rose amongst the freshers and the second years to see and live the campus life all over again.

Many students owe their increasing irritability and frustration of losing a huge part of their college lives to the pandemic. Well, it is certainly fair of them to ask for what they have been seeking ever since middle school. The situation, grimly, is not reflective of their desires.

Manish Mourya, a student of Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College started making memes using #AbTohCampusKholDo on Instagram. “Humare mock exams chal rahe hai and many of my friends spammed their exam answer sheets with sentences like ‘Online teaching and learning has been very horrible because kuch samajh nahi aata! Second semester mein college khulwao, mujhe nahi pata.’”

(Translation: We have mock exams going on and many of my friends spammed their exam answer sheets with sentences like ‘online teaching and learning has been very horrible because we don’t understand anything! I don’t know, make them open the colleges in the second semester.’)

With college life and fun on hold, in order to express their helplessness, the students have engaged in a funny rebellion. If just a little bit anti-climactic, this is an interesting approach to expressing anger, and we appreciate its entertainment value. Can the power of social media lead us out of this godforsaken pandemic?
