No Leave For JNU Faculty,To Complete Exams By 20th December

The administration of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has refused to allow leaves to the faculty and the course incharges to complete the examination process by 20th December 2019. Though the students of Jawaharlal Nehru University have been boycotting the end of semester exams due to protest against the fee hike. The teachers of JNU have said that the move is a threat tactic on the part of the administration.

Due to a hike in the hostel fee, the students have been boycotting the examinations to protest against the same. Except for Sanskrit, Engineering and Management centres, students of all other centres and schools of the University have boycotted the examinations while demanding the withdrawal of the hostel manual.

“As per the academic calendar, the examinations have to be completed between December 12 and December 20. Hence it is important that faculty members who need to conduct the end semester examination do not go on leave or out of station during this period,” University Registrar Pramod Kumar told Times of India.

Kumar later added that if there is any such leave which is already sanctioned, it stays cancelled for the faculty unless the exams have already been conducted.

The President of the JNU Teachers Association DK Lobiyal, said that the teachers are not shying away from performing their duties. Lobiyal said “Earlier the administration was issuing threats to the students and now it is issuing threats to the teachers. We are not shying away from performing our duties, we are only asking for a conditional environment for academic activities.”
