The inauguration of a digital library took place at the Gwyer Hall – The oldest boys’ Hostel of Delhi University on October 21.
The library, in a first of its kind initiative is launched with 10 lakh e-resources. The aim is to help students get access to digital content from their hostel room at any time of the day. It is started with 10 lakh online books – journals, research books and literature.
Delhi BJP chief, Manoj Tiwari funded ‚Çπ15 lakh to the library from his MPLADS fund for the Library.
The minister of state for HRD, Satyapal Singh inaugurated the e- library while Manoj Tiwari was the Guest of Honour of the occasion.
“When the fund was released two years ago, I never realised it will take the shape of this magnitude. This initiative has showed us a way for digital inclusion and now we can take it up at a much larger scale”, Manoj Tiwari said. He also announced another ‚Çπ1 crore for initiating digital libraries in other hostels.
“We will have to make digital a movement in all aspects of life and students have to play a crucial role in it. Apart from the benefits to the students, such initiatives are environment-friendly also”, Satyapal Singh said.
This e-library has become first such library in a government run institution in the country.
