The Social Democratic Teachers’ Front has issued a plea with regards to non-payment of salaries by Delhi university. Accordingly, the Delhi High Court has issued an ordinance against Delhi University asking for a response. This response is directed to both the AAP Government as well as DU. The plea claimed that for the last five months, Delhi University has not paid the dues. The salaries to the teaching as well as non-teaching staff of different colleges have been on hold. Furthermore, this also includes the retirement fund and other emoluments that were to be given to both current and ex-DU staff members.

Justice Jyoti Singh has demanded the AAP Government and Delhi University to respond to this plea by the 20th of November. The default on retirement funds of retired servers to the university has caused further distress amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. Specifically, four colleges were targeted for this plea. The colleges were Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, Bhagini Nivedita College, Aditi Mahavidyalaya Women’s College and Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies.

Advocate Ashok Agarwal has been a staunch fighter for this ordinance against Delhi University. He has been steadfast in demanding DU to pay their teaching and non-teaching staff. The Delhi Government has further ordered a directive asking the DU to pay pending salaries through the Students Society Fund. As the special audits of the colleges have not been completed yet, the Delhi Government asked DU to pay the dues from the Students Society Fund. However, a stay on this order has also been ordered by the High Court. Delhi University Students’ Union President, Akshit Dahiya had filed the appeal asking for this stay. 4th November has been set for further hearing of the plea. Initially, twelve colleges were spoken of in the plea, but eight were removed eventually.
