¬†Reshma Qureshi’s story is an inspiring one. She is the youngest daughter of a taxi driver in Mumbai. The beautiful 19 year old girl loves watching Katrina Kaif movies and taking selfies. However, her world turned upside down when she was attacked with acid by her own brother in law, due to which one of her eyes got damaged permanently. Few weeks after the attack, she went into depression after looking at her face. She decided to end her life and tried to commit suicide.- Advertisement -- Advertisement -
After her meeting with Ria Sharma, founder of an NGO named ‘Make love not scars’, transformed her life. She felt motivated and give her life a new beginning. Ria helped her in each and every possible way and built a strong bond with Reshma. This¬†helped Reshma to regain her confidence.- Advertisement -
Recently, in a display of her quiet defiance as a survivor, Reshma walked the ramp at the prestigious ‘New York Fashion Week.‘ The only thing she wants in life is to set an example for acid attack survivors. She wants to send a strong message to the world about women empowerment and end acid sale, an issue which has been discussed and proposed a number of times in our country but nothing major has been done about it.
“The walk was important to me because there are so many girls like me who are survivors of acid attacks and this will give them courage” Qureshi said in an interview.
We shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, we should look at everyone though the same eye.
