The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a case against a senior official of CBSE – Antriksh Johri, Kapil Soorma, the representative of Venus Digital Service and Venus Digital Service (Karol Bagh) along with some other unidentified officials of CBSE for alleged corruption, criminal conspiracy and criminal misconduct.

The future of 7.94 lakh aspirants who appeared in NET this year is at risk as the private firm who was given contract to scan the answersheets had not been able to complete the work.

The Central Board Of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducts a no. of examinations throughout the year and NET is one amongst them. This year it was conducted on January 22 at total 500 centres across the country and the contract to scan the answersheets of some examination centres was given to Venus Digital Service. The work for 412 centres in 18 cities was given at the rate of Rs 25000 per centre to the company, which CBI says was done without any tender and rates were arbitrary.

It was alleged that the work was given to the company despite it being on record of the CBSE that the firm does not exist at it’s Karol Bagh address. The FIR further mentions that the work order was issued by Deputy Secretary UGC (NET) on the instructions of Dr. Johri despite the objections by the Deputy Secretary UGC (NET) and director UGC (NET).

“It’s completely a baseless allegation”. These allegations are being levelled by some people who are not happy with my work to strengthen the system said Johri.

It was also alleged that the company was unable to complete the scanning of OMR sheets of 412 centres for which it was paid upto one crore. This has resulted in much of OMR sheets as on date not being scanned. For the remaining centres of 72 cities, the OMR sheets were to be brought to CBSE Delhi and then scanned.
