Table Tennis Player Soumyajit Ghosh Accused Of Raping An 18 Year Old,Likely To Miss Commonwealth Games

Paddler Soumyajit Ghosh has been booked for rape.His Commonwealth Games participation is under a risk due to this allegation.

Who is Soumyajit Ghosh?
Soumajit Ghosh is an Indian tennis player from West Bengal.He was the youngest Indian player to qualify for the 2012 Olympics.Ghosh was then selected for the coming Commonwealth Games owing to his high world ranking.

Allegation
On Wednesday,March 21,an 18-year- old girl lodged an FIR in Barasat,West Bengal against Ghosh accusing him of raping her on a false promise of marriage.

Consequences
The Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) was reported saying that they learned about the incident through newspaper reports and have managed to get a copy of the FIR.They added that this was a grave issue and have decided to hold an emergency meeting to discuss further on the issue and the actions to be taken.

The TTFI secretary-general,M.P. Singh was reported saying “My personal opinion is since the allegations are so grave,Ghosh should be suspended with immediate effect.If the investigation clears him of any wrongdoing,he can return to the fold immediately.” He also told The Hindu that the TTFI will take an appropriate call in 48 hours.

Soumyajit Ghosh has denied rape allegations and said that the girl was blackmailing him.
