Students Face Discrepancies While Filling the DU Examination Form

According to the latest notice released by the University of Delhi, the semester end examinations for UG students will start from December 12. The varsity has decided to conduct Open Book Examinations (OBE) for all UG students. Furthermore, they have been given a choice to choose between online or offline mode of examinations. Before the commencement of OBE, students have been asked to fill the DU examination form. The last date to fill and submit the same has been set as November 11. However, students have been facing a lot of discrepancies while filling out the form.

“There are a lot of things in the form which is unclear to students. For example, while filling out the details of individual papers, we are asked to choose between preference 1 or 2. Nobody I know has any idea about what that means. We are only guessing that it must be a choice between the offline and online mode of examinations. But then again, what specifically is preference 1 and what is preference 2, is very unclear. The worst part of this very oblivious situation is that even our teachers have no knowledge about the provisions of the form. We are waiting for further clarification by the varsity till the time we near the last date because that is the only thing we can do”, shared a student from Kamala Nehru College.

For many students, the exam portal shows that their email ID is unregistered with the varsity. One has to enter their email ID along with other details to access the DU examination form. However, for many students, the portal says that their email ID is not registered. When a lot of students raised this issue, the varsity provided an option to change the registered email ID and mobile number on the student portal itself. But even after making changes and registering their respective email ID and mobile number again, many students are facing the same issue.

“A week ago we got instructions to fill in the exam form. However, little did we know the obstacles we were going to face. We’ve filled in the exam form before so we were familiar with the procedure. But what we were not aware of were the extra additions that had been made. First off, a large number of people were unable to access the exam form because the portal said that their emails were unregistered. Only a selective few did not face this problem. We reported the problem and were given a solution to fix it but that did not work either. We, on our own, found a loophole to access the exam form. Then we had to choose between the online and offline mode of examination. When we asked what the difference would be, the administration had no clear answer. Those who were supposed to know what was happening were as clueless as the students. This is the problem that occurs when the top brass is unable to decide on any one thing. We’re now being told that we’ll have an OBE. What kind of OBE, what will the system and procedures be, no one has answers to these questions. We understand that in these unprecedented times, the administration is facing problems too. But they should realise that giving us half-baked information is not acceptable,” shared Prachi Khare.

A significant number of students have also been complaining about their General Elective subjects being unregistered. What is also important is that there is a lot of confusion about the paper codes. Certain students have no clarity about their paper codes while others have been told by their teachers that this time, the paper codes might change. The lack of help, clarification, and certainty in DU’s examination procedure is unsettling for a lot of students. They have a lot of doubts and confusion related to the DU examination form. If there no clarification from the varsity, they will be compelled to fill the form according to their own understanding. If they fill the form wrong, it may also lead to further problems and hassles for them.

The examination form can be accessed here (Click).
