The All India Students Association (AISA) took out a march protesting against Delhi University administration and demanding instant removal of Delhi University Students Union Secretary Mahamedha Nagar. The group of students met the Dean of Students Welfare asking him to terminate Ms.Nagar,DUSU Secretary from ABVP as she has failed to take her examinations due to short attendance. The students alleged that as per rules she was no longer a student of the University.
As per guidelines,a law faculty student must have at least 70% attendance to be able to sit for a semester exams and those who don’t have the required attendance are denied admit card. Moreover,DU rules states that only those who are students of the University can hold a post with the Students Union.
Kawalpreet Kaur, AISA President from Delhi University told The Hindu “It’s really a matter of disgrace how Ms.Nagar is still retaining her DUSU post despite knowing the fact that she has ceased to be a student.” She further added “Annexure N,Point VI of the DU constitution clearly states that a student ceases to be a member of the Union when he/she ceases to be a student and given the case Nagar can no longer be a DUSU representative. Moreover we believe that these non students cannot be the representatives of students.”
However, this matter has been taken to the court by Nagar and now the outcome will depend upon the court’s judgement.
