Delhi University is witnessing another protest at the Faculty of Law. The students have been protesting from a week against the non-approval of their LLB Degrees.
After the Delhi High Court Order on December 4, 2019, a list has been published by the Bar Council of India (BCI), which states that only those students have a valid degree who have taken admission till the year 2016-17.
This implies that the students who have taken admission after 2016-17 and will graduate in the coming years or presently will receive a law degree that is not valid. Due to this, the students are demanding from the Bar Council of India to approve their degrees. The students have also alleged that the administration has not acknowledged their grievances.
Students also pointed out that this ignorant behavior by the administration is not in compliance with University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines which state that whatsoever grievance students have, must be properly addressed and disposed off within 15 days. The rules and regulations also state that the administration must submit a report to the students as well as the Vice-Chancellor of the University regarding the grievance, but none of that has taken place.
Considering the present situation, the students are demanding that UGC, as well as BCI’s regulations, must be properly implemented in the University and all the rules regarding legal education must also be complied by the University.
The students have other demands as well which include a fair amount of transparency in the administration system, new reforms for the evaluation system, etc.
