Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the “Swachhata Hi Sewa Campaign” on Saturday morning by initiating a cleanliness drive in the grounds of Baba Sahib Ambedkar Higher Secondary School in Paharganj,New Delhi. Many ministers and leaders of BJP also participated in the drive across the country.
He launched the cleanliness drive to encourage mass participation of the citizens of the country in the “Swachhata Abhiyan”,launched by the government on 2nd October 2015.In other way, this drive would act as a legacy of the campaign to be continued till October 2 that happens to be Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary.
“All sections of the society and every part of the country have joined the cleanliness drive, exhorting people to rededicate themselves to fulfilling the father of the nation’s dream of a clean India”.Highlighting the concept of sanitation, in a video interaction with the people of the country, he stated that sanitation in India has increased from 40% to 90% ever since the “Swachh Bharat” campaign was launched.Further, calling it a historic day,he said¬†“Had anybody imagined that more than 450 districts would be open defecation free (ODF) in four years or that 20 states and Union Territories would be open defecation free in four years.”¬†
Acknowledging the hard efforts of the people dedicating themselves towards India’s cleanliness project,he said that such people would be remembered just as our beloved freedom fighters and they would be known as the true heirs of Gandhi.
Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has been one of the greatest initiatives in country’s history, creating some great benchmarks. It includes waste collection, open defecation, building toilets, municipal solid waste processing and disposal and education and behaviour change.“Swachhata Hi Sewa”¬†campaign is going to take these initiatives forward.
