In the light of unprecedented events, Daulat Ram College issued renewal letters recently targeting the AD HOC teachers of the college. The clause reads, “in case of any complaint/adverse reports from students, TIC (teacher in charge), department or administration or due to change of workload in the department, your ad hoc service is terminable without notice.” The action was a threat to their job security, hinting that they can be removed from their job profiles with no prior notice.

DU Executive Council member Rajesh Jha referred to the clause as “unprecedented” as well.

College principal Savita Rai said they took the decision in the interest of students. Here, she was referring to a case of an ad hoc teacher going to court last year, where she alleged caste bias after she did not get a renewal letter. “… after the teacher had gone to court, we were asked why the appointment letter does not warn of such a possibility… We are in the process of trying to get it vetted by the DU legal cell,” she stated.

While talking to The Indian Express, one of the ad hoc teachers said “I have been working at the college for many years… This is making the teachers very anxious.”
