Traditionally, the encounter between the two Spanish clubs, CF Real Madrid and FC Barcelona is called ‘El Clasico’. It literally means ‘The Classic’. Historically, these matches have been exciting and full of action. These two are considered the elite clubs of La Liga, the Spanish football league.

The rivalry comes about as Madrid and Barcelona are the two largest cities in Spain, and they are sometimes identified with opposing political positions, with Real Madrid being viewed as representing Spanish nationalism and Barcelona viewed as representing Catalan nationalism. These clubs are two of the most successful, richest with the largest fanbases and social media fan-following.

The upcoming El Clasico will be Barcelona’s first match since winning the LaLiga title for the 25th time. It will be the second meeting this season, following the Santiago Bernabeu encounter, which Barcelona won 3-0. Footballing giants like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Philippe Coutinho, and Gareth Bale amongst others will put their best foot forward to establish dominance. This could also be the legendary Andres Iniesta’s last El Clasico, as the 33-year old announced that he is to end his glittering stint with the Blaugrana.

Football enthusiasts across the nation can catch the #ElClasico LIVE SONY TEN 1 and SONY TEN 2 channels at 11:00 PM onwards on 6th May 2018.
