The World is Ready for Football Fever as Euro Cup 2021 is all set to begin

The 24 team football tournament, Euro Cup 2021 is all set to be staged from 11 June to 11 July. The tournament will be hosted by 11 cities of Europe. This festival of football which was all set to be held in 2020 was postponed due to the pandemic but will now be held with equal fervour.

The teams have been divided into 6 groups, from A through F where each team will face the other three teams in its group before going through to the knock-off stage. The tournament will kick-off with the first match between Italy and Turkey at Stadio Olimpico in Rome which will be aired at 12:30 am IST on June 12th.

After all the matches have been played at the group level, the top two teams will qualify for the pre-quarterfinal that will have 16 teams, the remaining four being selected based on the best third team in the groups. This will be followed by the quarterfinals, semifinals and final. For the selection of the third-best team, goal difference will form a deciding factor.

This one-off a kind event has caused the entire world to be excited about an upcoming month of intense competition, wonderful matches and insane goals. The final and two sem-finals will be held at the Wembley Stadium in London. Football legend and former UEFA president Michel Platini had called this event ‘romantic’, a term that does justice to this event that is an emotion for thousands of people across the globe.

For Euro Cup 2021, Group F is being regarded as the group of death with three big names in it – Portugal, Germany and France along with Hungary constituting the fourth team. All the big teams are aiming to make it big in this tournament which is considered the second biggest international tournament right behind the World Cup.

Three points will be awarded for each win while one will be given for a draw. No points will be given for a loss. For tiebreakers, goals scored and goal differential will be invoked if necessary. The final will be held on the 11th of July while the two semifinals will be held on July 6 and July 7.

Spectators will be allowed to enter the stadium however in different capacities. The stadiums hope to increase their capacities as the tournament rolls on. While speculations are rife over which team will lift the cup this team, the competition is going to be a nail-biter will heavyweights clashing against each other.

The football fever is rising as the tournament is coming closer. The evenings promise to be more happening as the world waits together with bated breath for their favorite team (or player) to send the ball soaring through the air into the goal.
