Since 2020, globetrotters and rovers are not all moonlight and roses, thanks to a global ban on travelling. However, 23-yr-old Keralite Nidhin Maliyekkal on losing his job amid the pandemic took all this as a wake-up call – a wake-up call to fulfil his dream of travelling and getting to know people and their culture all along the way. So, this chai-wala cycled from Kerala to Kashmir.
THIS CHAI WALA CYCLED FROM KERALA TO KASHMIR
Calling himself a dreamer, Nidhin decided to fulfil his hankering to travel and to understand people, regions, cultures all along the way. With only 170 bucks, 1 kg of sugar, 1 kg of tea powder, and a borrowed Hercules bicycle, he stepped out from his abode in Thrissur, on January 1, 2021.
En route to Kashmir, Nidhin sold tea to bear the travelling expenses. In addition to the tea-making requisites, he has been spotted with inspiring quotes.
“Life is like a cup of tea, it’s all in how you make it.”
BICYCLE. LESSONS. TEA.
This chai-wala cycled from Kerala to Kashmir by passing through the Indian states of Goa, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Haryana, and many more to reach Kashmir. This thrilling road trip was up to the brim with challenges.
After cycling for around 45 kilometers, Nidhin realized that he had left his Aadhaar card in a lodge in Kashmir. Fortunately, the lodge owner was kind enough to drive to the Sangam Police Station to return it to him. Above all, Nidhin got assistance with ingredients from local tea sellers when he ran out of his supplies.
By the time he reached Uttar Pradesh on his way back home, the nation was clutched into the claws of the second wave. Hence, Nidhin had to take the rest of his return journey on the back of a lorry. The snippets from his journey are available on his YouTube channel – NIDH TEA BRO.
By embarking on this journey, Nidhin earned the experience of a lifetime. Nidhin’s wanderlust now desires to scale Mt. Everest someday.
