1995: The top quark is discovered
Researchers at Fermilab in Batavia, Illinois, announced the discovery of the top quark, the sixth and most massive quark. The top quark, sometimes also referred to as the truth quark, (symbol: t) is the most massive of all observed elementary particles. The existence of this elementary particle, the bottom quark’s counterpart, had been presumed since the 1970’s.
