1937: Hindenburg disaster

The Hindenburg disaster was an airship accident that occurred in New Jersey, United States. The German passenger airship LZ 129 Hindenburg caught fire and was destroyed in an attempt to dock with its mooring tower. The accident caused 36 fatalities. The airship Hindenburg, the largest dirigible ever built and the pride of Nazi Germany.

1944: Mahatma Gandhi released unconditionally from Aga Khan Palace

In 1942, Mahatma Gandhi was put under house arrest for 21 months in Aga Khan Palace in the city of Pune during the Quit India Movement. Along with Gandhi, his wife Kasturba, Secretary Mahadev Desai, Miraben, Pyarelal Nayar, Sarojini Naidu, and Dr. Sushila Nayar were also put in the palace which served as a jail. On this day in 1944, Gandhi was released because of his failing health.

1998: Steve Jobs introduced Apple’s first iMac

On this day in 1998, Steve Jobs introduced the world’s first iMac computer to the world that forever changed the way people look at computers. The iMac was responsible for bringing Apple back into the business after years of business blunders.

2004: The final episode of Friends is aired

At 9 pm on May 6, 2004, the final original episode, titled “the last one”, of the long-running comedy series Friends aired on NBC. An estimated 51.1 million people tuned in watch the show. The show remains extremely popular even today and has a huge fanbase worldwide.
