21 DU colleges are without the regular principals for their colleges and instead have an acting heads for many years.The University Grants Commission (UGC) have warned 21 DU colleges that unless they appoint regular principals for their respective colleges, their grants would be withheld.
The colleges in question include Hindu College, Jesus and Mary College, Kamala Nehru College and Gargi College.Most of these colleges have acting heads instead of principals for 8 years and more. The last time The Hindu college had a principal was in 2012.
UGC officials told that UGC’s threat would weigh heavy on these colleges, as they rely on the funds provided by the body for their daily functioning.The UGC wrote a letter addressing the colleges and the DU registrar in August asking them to expedite the appointment process.
The Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry had directed the UGC to take an action against the colleges as they had ignored instructions from the President’s office to appoint the principals.
In most of the colleges, interviews have not been held at the level of the respective governing bodies. This shows a lack of commitment on the part of college authorities.The Hindu College and other above mentioned colleges stated that it had already begun the appointment process, also HRD Ministry and the colleges had agreed to complete the whole process soon.
UGC Secretary, Professor Rajnish Jain stated that respective colleges were asked by the UGC to share information regarding the date, by which they would hold interviews to fill up the post of principal.Hence, above stated college are fixing dates and some of them are advertising the post.
