Undergraduate aspirants to Delhi University complain about the inactive phone lines and email services that were provided. Amidst the ongoing pandemic, DU has made its admission process for all undergraduate courses in all colleges completely online. Hence, the only point of contact that aspirants have with college officials is that of phone calls and emails. Nonetheless, students have been complaining about the inaccessible undergraduate admission process.

According to sources in the Indian Express, some students are reportedly still confused about how to calculate their aggregate marks. DU takes into consideration the aggregate of best of four subjects of the qualifying school examination. However, a student has said that, “I was under the impression that I would be eligible for admission to either Hansraj or Ramjas College with my best of 4 percentage. However, when I opened the portal, neither of those options are available to me. I am confused about how to calculate my percentage since I have two language subjects. So I have applied to Gargi College and had emailed Hansraj College looking to clear my doubt but I didn’t get a response. I didn’t even get an email from the central grievance email ID. After several attempts, I did manage to get through to the central admission helpline but I didn’t find that useful because I was just told to go through the bulletin of information.”

Furthermore, students have also complained about the undergraduate admission process being complicated to the Delhi University Students Association. DUSU had set up a helpdesk to aid both the administrative staff and students in the admission process. DUSU joint secretary Shivangi Kharwal has said that, “We have particularly got several complaints about unresponsiveness on the numbers at Hansraj College, Ramjas College, Kalindi College and Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College. There has to be an effective contact point for students in the colleges since they are not able to physically be present and speak to relevant officers.”

Manoj Khanna, the Principal of Ramjas College has said that the nodal officer has been kept extremely busy. This is due to the steady and extensive inflow of calls every day. A huge number of students have been calling which is why the phoneline appears to be busy. Additionally, there are inefficient technological systems which has made most of the work manual for the administrative staff.

DU had provided contact details of nodal officers for admissions to each college. Moreover, some central helpline numbers and a central email ID for admission grievances were also created. DU has successfully admitted 29,746 students out of the 59,730 applications that were received. An additional 10,987 students will be admitted once their fee payment is cleared.
