Delhi University is planning to digitise attendance from the coming academic session.The smart based system will allow students to track their attendance in real time instead of waiting for the semester to get over.
The university is also planning to counsel students if they have missed lectures for a longer period of time.The plan is currently at beta testing phase at four colleges of the University and School of Journalism.
“In order to bring transparency and primarily to help students so that they don’t fall short of attendance, due to which they would have to repeat a complete academic session, the app-based online attendance system is being planned. Hopefully we will have a good experience in the pilot run to scale it to the rest of the colleges and all undergraduate courses,” said Yogesh Tyagi,Vice Chancellor of University of Delhi.
“This system would help the students know the exact status and the number of classes they need to attend to have the minimum attendance every day,” said an Examination Branch official.
“Our aim is to help the students. If we find a student who is not able to attend classes we will try to understand the reason and resolve the matter. We will arrange counselling for the student if need be,”¬†Yogesh Tyagi added.
The colleges where the beta testing is currently underway are Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College,Lakshmibai College,Shivaji College and Aryabhatta College.
“The app is developed indigenously by the university where all the data from the colleges will be directly linked to a centralised system. We are currently in the process of implementing it in our college and will give our feedback to the university.”¬†said Lakshmibai College’s Principal.
