In continuance to the ongoing DUTA Strike, the teachers marched from Mandi House to Parliament Street on 5 Feb, Tuesday, demanding the removal of varsity’s vice chancellor because of lack of any action from his side over the ongoing important issues.
The strike caused a complete shutdown on teaching in the university as a large group of teachers gathered to protest in the march.
DUTA states that hardly any permanent teachers have been appointed in the university in the last decade and thus they demand that the government forms a one-time ordinance to absorb all the temporary and ad-hoc teachers.
The delay on government’s behalf in announcing a bill in the current budget session of parliament in favor of 200-point college/university unit-wise roster has put in danger jobs of a large number of teachers belonging to SC, ST and OBC communities, the DUTA said.
Attempts are being made by the government to privatize higher education and Delhi University and its constituent colleges through different schemes like tripartite MoU and autonomous colleges, ever since it has come to power.
The teacher’s association has displayed strong dissent against these actions of the government amongst other actions which aim to convert higher education from a grant based economy to the one which is loan based.
Since the Vice Chancellor has been extremely inactive in taking any action upon this issue, the teachers demand his removal.
