The protests in JNU over new hostel rules and fees enters it’s third day on Wednesday with a strike called by its students union JNUSU, where a new way of “OFFICE ORDERS” were introduced.

The meeting on Monday by the Inter – Hall Administration had decided to increase the hostel fees around ₹2,000 and further hike in mess and room rent around ₹4,000 for each student.  Along with this students were also asked to pay a refundable security deposit of ₹12,000. These whole new set of hostel rules and forced entry of few members of JNUSU in the meeting, created a situation of bizzare in the University where a series of strikes and protests began.

Fuel to this whole situation was further provided by the notice issued on the second day of the strike by the Registrar where he condemned and prohibited any sort of violence, protests, sit-ins which disrupts the normal academic and administrative functions.

To deal with this situation, JNUSU came up with the office orders. On Thursday, the Students Union issued an order against the Vice Chancellor M. Jagadesh complaining about the unjust and undemocratic actions took up by him and illegally violating the order of Hon’ble High Court’s Judgment and drafting the Hostel Manual of 2019. The order issued by JNUSU demands to maintain the justice and democratic ethos of the University and asks for the reply regarding the actions initiated by him till 4th November and if the administration fails to do so, then the competent authority will be free to take any appropriate action against him.

Similarly an order is issued against the Dean of Students Umesh Kadam, who had violated the norms and declared as “Out of Bounds”. His entry in the campus is prohibited and whosoever provides shelter to him within the University premises will be considered as an offence and if Kadam needs to visit JNU for any academic purpose then he requires to seek an official permission from JNUSU, 10 days prior to his visit.

However Kadam had filled a police complaint against the 4 students for harassing and threatening him and his family. He also shared the photograph of the notice on his social media stating, that how Aisha Ghosh, JNUSU President is insulting, threatening and defaming him in public sphere.
